Pearl

Back on October 8th, The NWRHS Band recently traveled to Pearl for their competition. There was relative nervousness due to this being a very important competition. In fact, it was the seniors’ last Pearl competition. However, all their hard work had paid off due to their phenomenal placements. This year, the band performed exceptionally; for their state evaluation, they received all superior (all 1’s)- this includes the drum major, percussion, guard, and band. State evaluations are regarded very seriously, as they determine ratings for the rest of the year (raising opportunities for sweepstakes awards). Overall, for the night show, they placed 3rd. Drum majors scored first, receiving a 98 on a 100 scale.

Hoover

The Cougar Marching Band just recently competed in the Hoover Invitational Marching Festival in the 4A category.  This momentous occasion was filled with enthusiasm as  dedicated band members were ready to have fun and showcase their talents. The band earned an All-Superior rating in Drum Major, Color Guard, Percussion, and Band. Overall, they placed 4th and received a score of 91.

Fellow Newspaper staff member Ella MacGregor interviewed drum major Annie Nam about the competition. She had this to say:

The last competition at Hoover made me feel very overwhelmed with emotions. As a senior, it was my last ever competition with the Northwest Rankin High School Cougar Marching Band. Band has helped me grow tremendously throughout these four years. I not only grew as a band member but I also grew as a person and a friend. I would walk into the band hall not knowing what to expect but that was honestly the best part of the whole experience. The final moment when I stepped off the Hoover field is something that I want to cherish forever even after Northwest Rankin High School. Being a drum major was an honor and the biggest highlight of my last year of high school as a cougar.”

Congratulations to the NWRHS band, including the members and directors, as well as everyone involved in the competition efforts, for their amazing display of skill and dedication to the band!
