Thanksgiving Foods

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and we are all thinking about the delicious food to stuff ourselves with. Here are some delicious items that you can make for Thanksgiving dinner.

 

Main dishes: 

Turkey: 

  • Give the turkey a good amount of time to thaw out
  • Put turkey on a pan to let any access juice run out 
  • Pat turkey dry with paper towels
  • Put turkey into the oven for 13 minutes on 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Make sure to check your turkey in the oven every few minutes 
  • Toppings: onion, garlic, thyme, rosemary, and sage
  • Pull out any unnecessary things from the inside the turkey 

 

Dressing: 

  • Equipment needed: pan and baking dish 
  • 1 cup self-rising cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup self-rising flour
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 8 tablespoons butter (1 stick) 
  • 3 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 pieces toast, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 to 2 1/2 cups chicken stock or broth
  • 2 tablespoons butter

preheat oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit

Pour into baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes 

Add any type of topping you want and bake for another 30 minutes until light brown on top 

Sides: 

Mashed potatoes: 

-yukon golds or russets potatoes are good choices because they are easy to smash 

– cut the potatoes into ¾ inches so they can cook evenly 

-boil cold water 

– one the water is boiled, salt the water

-let the steam rise for at least 5 minutes 

– when adding ingredients or toppings to the mashed potatoes, make sure they are room temperature and not cold 

-when mashing the potatoes, try to avoid electric mixers 

 

Mac and cheese: 

  • Start with boxed noodles or you can make your own
  • You need butter and flour
  • Two tablespoons of butter for the topping
  • Whole milk
  • Cheese: parmesan or cheddar
  • Seasonings: salt and pepper and over the top bread crumbs 
  • Boil the noodles
  • Melt the cheese, or make the cheese sauce: season with salt and pepper
  • Pour the cheese sauce over the noodles
  • Put bread crumbs in skillet and top with butter until brownish
  • Bake in oven until golden brown after putting it all into a baking dish
  • 350 degrees fahrenheit for 30 minutes, recommended

 

Desserts:

 

Pumpkin pie: 

  • ¾ cups sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 can of pumpkin mix
  • 1 ¼ cups of evaporated milk
  • 2 eggs beaten 
  • 1 crust
  • Heat oven to 425 degrees fahrenheit
  • Bake for 15 minutes 
  • Then reduce oven to 350 and bake for 40 to 50 minutes 
  • Let cool for two hours or refrigerate 

 

Carrot cake: 

  • All purpose flour
  • Baking soda
  • Sugar
  • Cooking oil
  • Eggs
  • Lots of carrots
  • Pecans and raisins: optional 
  • Mix everything into a bowl 
  • Bake for 30-45 minutes
  • Frosting: cream cheese, powdered sugar, heavy cream
