Hogwarts Legacy Knocks it Out of the Park
February 9, 2023
Spoiler Alert! This article will talk about reviews for the new Wizarding World game, which may feature a spoiler or two. Reader beware.
A year of new video games is starting off strong in 2023 with the recent release of Avalanche Software’s Hogwarts Legacy. Having been in development since January of 2017, it’s obvious that hard work truly does pay off. The game will release on February 10th–though only for specific consoles and PC. Owners of older consoles will, as it usually goes, have to wait until April or July to play the game. If you’d like to know when you can play the game, check the official website here.
Those who purchased the deluxe edition of the game were treated to an early release, February 7th. Already, the game has earned a solid B+ according to Metacritic. Popular streamers have also began uploading hours of gameplay on Youtube, much to the delight of those too impatient to wait for a glimpse of the Wizarding World. (I include myself with those eager bunch of people).
Travis Northup, a writer for IGN, gives a very spoiler-filled review if you’d like to check it out. As far as the highlights of the game, he discusses memorable characters, a vast and expansive open world, challenging but fun combat, exciting quests, and so on. In nearly every way, Hogwarts Legacy is the Harry Potter RPG I’ve always wanted to play. — Travis Northup, IGN
Now, of course, every positive has a negative to balance it out. Northup’s review states that the main story, at times, falls a bit flat or uninspired. There are also some technical issues with gameplay, but as any gamer knows, that’s to be expected during a game’s first release. I expect there will be some patches in the future to address issues.
Overall, it seems that the game will continue in its popularity, and I’m sure many look forward to tomorrow’s official release.
